Braddock, J. G. (Julian G.) Senior. Wooden Ships--Iron Men : Four Master Mariners of the Colonial South Charleston, S.C. : VJB Press, c1996. A considerable portion of this biography deals with activities in the Bahamas. Two of the mariners were William Lyford Sr. who was married to the daughter of William Spatches and Lyford's son, William Lyford Jr., who was born in the Bahamas, and who helped plan and took part in Col. Deveaux's raid that drove the Spanish from Nassau.

Townsend, Peter S., M.D. -- The Diary of a Physician from the United States Visiting the Island of New Providence, Nassau 1823-24. Bahamas Historical Society, 1968. (A wonderful insight into the upper class of Nassau during this time. Dr. Townsend was staying with the Moss family in Nassau, and many names are mentioned throughout the short book.
